Want to play AION 2 with a controller instead of a keyboard and mouse? I got my PS5 DualSense working with AION 2 on PC using a wired USB connection and Steam Input, including custom button mapping for movement, combat and skills.

This post walks through the setup and what it’s actually like playing AION 2 with a gamepad. It follows my video on the same topic.

Why Use a Controller in AION 2?

Whether you’re exploring Atreia, completing quests, or fighting enemies, a controller gives you another way to enjoy AION 2. It’s comfortable for longer sessions, and you can play from the couch or a desk without a keyboard and mouse in the way.

How to Connect a PS5 DualSense Controller to Your PC

For this setup I used a wired USB connection. Plug the DualSense into your PC with a USB cable and Windows will detect it. Wired is the simplest option and avoids any pairing issues.

How to Enable Steam Input for AION 2

The key to making the DualSense work well with AION 2 is Steam Input. In short:

  1. Open Steam and add AION 2 as a non-Steam game, if it isn’t already in your library.
  2. Open the game’s controller settings and make sure Steam Input is enabled for your DualSense.
  3. Launch AION 2 through Steam so the controller layout is applied.

The video shows each of these steps on screen, so follow along there if anything looks different on your setup.

Custom PS5 Controller Button Mapping

Steam Input lets you map the DualSense buttons however you like. I set up my own layout so that movement, combat and my main abilities are easy to reach. Spend a few minutes here. A layout that suits your playstyle makes the biggest difference.

Movement, Combat and Skills With a Controller

Once the mapping is done, I test how movement, combat and abilities feel in the game. The video shows all of this in action, so you can see how a gamepad handles AION 2 before you commit to it.

Is Playing AION 2 With a Controller Worth It?

If you like playing on a controller and want a more relaxed way to explore and fight, it’s worth trying, and with Steam Input the setup is quick. If you rely on fast, precise skill use, give your mapping some time to settle in. I cover my final thoughts at the end of the video.
