How to connect PlayStation 3 Controller on PC

Hey what up this is Eddy04 and today will learn how to connect a PlayStation 3 Controller to a PC. That’s right, an old PS3 Controller working on PC. Here we have learned how to connect a PlayStation 1 and 2 Controller to a PC, a PS4 controller and a PlayStation 5 Dual Sense controller to PC.

For this method we’ll need the following: A mini-USB Cable, SCP Driver and a PS3 Controller. Now if you are interested in connecting your controller on Bluetooth you will need an additional Bluetooth dongle. A separate dongle is suggested, since it requires the adapter to be solely dedicated to the SCP service; unfortunately you will not be able to use other Bluetooth devices with this solution.

The SCP Driver is an open-source driver which allows DualShock 2, DualShock 3 and DualShock 4 to work in Microsoft Windows natively. This means these controllers will be recognized as xinput, also known as Xbox 360 controllers.

As you can see here we got a PS3 Controller and we just plugged it in using the mini-usb cable on PC. In Windows 10 it’s detected as PlayStation 3 Controller, but since the drivers are not compatible so the gamepad won’t respond to our inputs. That’s O.K. because we’ll solve this right away. This is the easiest method to connect your PS3 controller to PC.

Extract the SCP driver to any location. Now the latest version is .175 so we’ll download this version as well and update the SCP drive files. These files are added in the description below, to make your life easier.

Next step is to go to ProgramFiles and create a new Folder. You can do this by right clicking and creating a new folder. Or you can just click on New Folder and we’ll call this folder Scarlet.CrushProductions. I also included a full compressed package with the Scarlet folder ready to use.

Now let’s dive into this Scarlet file folder, then bin and we’ll look for SCPdriver and the SCPMonitor. The first is for the driver installation and SCP Monitor is for tracking and checking the PS3 Controller connected and mapped.

For easy access pin these files to Start. So whenever you want to return and check your PlayStation3 Controller connectivity you’ll get there immediately.

Make sure to run the SCPDriver as administrator. Do this by right-clicking and choosing Run as Administrator. Just need to choose configure service and choose Install. After doing this, we can wait a minute or two for the drivers to finish the installation. Now we’ll have two controllers showing under “Devices and Printers” which is expected. Now the PS3 controller responds as an Xbox 360 controller.

Now for the Bonus Tip, let’s connect our PS3 controller through Bluetooth.

Remember to use a separate Bluetooth dongle for the SCP Drivers. Otherwise you won’t be able to connect bluetooth keyboards, mice nor other devices with the same bluetooth connection.

Run SCP Installer, click on the Bluetooth Driver Checkbox and we should see the confirmation when installed. Now let’s load the SCP Monitor to check the Server and controllers are active. Something important to note is one dongle can support up to 4 DualShock 3 connections.
