How to Control Microsoft Teams with Elgato Stream Deck

So recently we talked about the Elgato stream deck plus and I didn’t think I was going to be using this product that much but I found myself actually using the Elgato stream deck plus a little bit more than usual. You all know I do live streaming, I do production and a whole bunch of other stuff but I found myself using it more often in a regular day-to-day.

By the way, did you know that you can actually control your Microsoft teams with the stream deck software? Go to your computer and open up the stream deck software now install the new Microsoft teams plugin by going to discover now go to plugins and search for Microsoft teams.

Click on install I know I already have it installed and it’s going to look like this little blue button here that shows up as install and then you just go ahead and click it and now the new plugin has been added to the stream deck plugin Library.

So now what we’re going to do is go to our stream their plugin Library scroll all the way down and we’re going to look for Microsoft teams you’ll notice we already have a quite a few options here and I used to do some of these with shortcuts but let’s be honest shortcuts on a stream deck are not always the best approach especially when the app is not in Focus.

Anyways I created a third page and added a few buttons for Microsoft teams you’ll notice it defaults to the Microsoft teams icon with a lock and that is okay this is because we need to authorize the stream that with the Microsoft teams API token now to get this token open up your team software and go to settings and more then settings then we go to privacy and scroll to the bottom.

Now here is where we got the third party API and click on manage API after this we just want to go ahead and enable the API which will provide an API token copy this to our stream deck and we should be ready now you can actually generate new API tokens by just clicking on the generate button so in my case my buttons already came up but if you still have the team’s logo with the lock that means that you will actually need to activate the API and you need to do this by being an active call which is pretty straightforward.

You can go ahead and just create a test call and this is how you do it you want to go to settings and more go to settings then go to devices and around the middle you might have an option that says make a test call you can go ahead and just click on make a test call and this would initiate a test call for you.

Final thoughts

Now you’ll notice that my icons change from inactive to active and it came up with color pretty much. That’s what you want to do now we have the Microsoft teams feature at reach of our fingers without using a mouse.
